Lindsey’s life and her acting career began going off the rails ways back in 2007. This was a disastrous year for her – she got arrested for drink driving twice, got arrested for cocaine use, made multiple trips to alcohol rehab and ended up locked up in a cell for over an hour. She believes that her actions were ‘totally irresponsible…a stupid mistake.”

She explains that from this point on, the press were constantly following her. It was her first time taking drugs, she was in a club with new people, took cocaine, and then got behind the wheel. 

However, Lohan’s first visit to rehab was not actually for a drug or alcohol addiction, but to help with trauma she suffered whilst filming “I Know Who Killed Me” in 2007. She checked into the Wonderland Centre in LA to help with her bad nightmares – as the movie was quite traumatising.

Lindsey stayed here so she could sleep. She also wanted to talk about her experiences in the morning with a therapist. She would leave the rehab clinic every day and just return in the evenings. 

By this point, Lindsey hadn’t even been drinking alcohol for more than a year. She kept clear of alcohol after she experienced her first hangover at 17 – her mum made her go to bed with sick still on her to teach her a lesson. She claims she was a well-behaved teen who worked hard, was responsible, and avoided the parties. 

 

Lohan considers herself an expert at rehab, she’s been court-ordered to attend it six times. The last rehab clinic she attended was the Betty Ford clinic, where she also spent her longest stay. She looks at this visit positively, she could return being fully focused on her work. 

Whilst blaming the LA lifestyle for straying her off path, she does acknowledge two women of Hollywood who have helped her. Meryl Streep advised her on acting, and let her know what she needed to do differently, and advised she goes to live with her mum for a little bit.

She couldn’t actually move back to New York, as her probation required her to stay in California for regular drug testing. She believes this is the worst possible place she could have been at the time. 

Lohan went on to explain that Jamie Lee-Curtis, who struggled with her own issues of Vicodin addiction, was very kind to her. Curtis told her to take the good advice and get rid of any hangers-on.
